Paul John Martin, 45, was convicted last week of second-degree murder in the 2023 killing of Surrey resident Robb Memory, according to the Lower Mainland Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. The trial began in March at the B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster.

A second-degree murder conviction carries an automatic life sentence, although the trial judge must determine when Martin will become eligible for parole. IHIT said Martin is scheduled to appear in court Thursday to set a date for a sentencing hearing.

Memory was found dead in a home near 191 Street and 68 Avenue on Aug. 27, 2023. Police said his injuries were consistent with homicide but have not disclosed how he was killed. Martin was arrested on Sept. 1, 2023, and has remained in custody since then.

Sgt. Freda Fong said the guilty verdict resulted from the work of IHIT, its policing partners and Crown counsel with the B.C. Prosecution Service. She said investigators were thinking of Memory’s family and others affected by the incident as sentencing approaches.
