The family of Pte. Trevor Flegel says he remains in hospital more than 10 days after the deadly fire at CFB Wainwright. He suffered severe burns to half of his body. The 26-year-old has served in the military since 2024. His family said he enlisted to challenge himself physically and mentally, discover what he was capable of and experience life beyond his small hometown of Kitimat, B.C.

His family describes him as quiet, independent, strong-willed and determined. They said Trevor approaches life on his own terms, and that military service challenged him in new ways, helped him grow and brought him lifelong friendships with his military brothers.

Outside work, Pte. Flegel enjoys riding dirt bikes and spending time outdoors. His family says his burns mean he faces a long road to recovery, and they have started a GoFundMe campaign: https://www.gofundme.com/f/standing-with-trevor-flegel-cfb-wainwright-recovery-fund.

The family said it is grateful for the support from friends, the community and people across Canada. They also thanked the medical team caring for Trevor and for the compassion shown to the family.
