The Oilers place Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on injured reserve with a lower-body injury
Nugent-Hopkins will miss his second straight game Thursday after being injured in practice, while Zach Hyman is also out and Edmonton makes several roster moves.

The Edmonton Oilers have placed veteran forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on injured reserve with a lower-body injury sustained in practice Monday. He will miss his second straight game Thursday, when Edmonton visits the Vancouver Canucks. Nugent-Hopkins also missed Tuesday’s season opener, a 6-5 overtime loss to Vancouver.
Winger Zach Hyman will also miss Thursday’s game with an upper-body injury. Coach Babcock said after the morning skate that Hyman was hurt in Saturday’s pre-season game against the Calgary Flames and is day to day. Hyman played 20:33 and recorded three shots in Tuesday’s loss.
The Oilers also placed forward Matthew Savoie and defenceman Alec Regula on long-term injured reserve. Edmonton recalled forward Josh Samanski from the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors under emergency conditions. Babcock confirmed the Oilers will start Devon Levi in goal Thursday in place of Tristan Jarry, who stopped 17 of 23 shots in Tuesday’s loss.
