Michael Dunn is a Surrey Connect candidate for Surrey city council. He describes himself as a father, lawyer, realtor and community volunteer, and says this is his first run for public office. His three priorities are safer streets by continuing to hire police officers and building the SPS; better transit through bus rapid transit along King George; and supporting business by cutting red tape so businesses and employment can grow.

If elected, Dunn says he would work with Mayor Brenda Locke and the Surrey Connect team to establish the policies and powers needed to govern the region’s most populous city. He says Metro Vancouver needs greater transparency and control, and argues that its mismanagement will be an economic drag on Surrey for years. He also says Surrey is the only major city in Canada without its own charter and operates under a statutory scheme designed for small and medium-sized cities that is entirely inadequate for Surrey.

Dunn cites Mayor Locke’s words that the team is there to give effect to residents’ vision for Surrey, and says they want public input. He describes Surrey as being at a pivotal point in its development and emergence as the most important city in British Columbia. He says this serious moment calls for serious consideration from an experienced slate. Voters can find out more at surrey-connect.ca and on Instagram at @surreyconnect_.
