Two people have been charged in connection with separate shootings in Surrey, B.C., last year, according to the province’s anti-extortion task force. Pardeep Singh, 22, and Saveer Khan, 22, were each charged with two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm. The B.C. Extortion Task Force announced the charges Friday. Singh and Khan were arrested in Surrey on Nov. 1 and remain in custody.

The first shooting was reported on Oct. 12, 2025, when gunfire targeted a home in the 13000 block of 103A Avenue. Investigators said a female victim was injured. Four days later, on Oct. 16, police were called about shots fired at Kap’s Café in the 8400 block of 120 Street. Police said two employees were inside during the overnight attack but were not injured.

It was the third time the café, owned by Bollywood celebrity Kapil Sharma, had been targeted in a shooting that year. Both investigations were transferred to the provincial task force, established last year to investigate threats and violence targeting the South Asian community. A task force news release Friday said it had worked closely with other law enforcement partners to advance the parallel investigations.

RCMP Chief Supt. Duncan Pound said in a statement that the charges followed extensive investigative work over the past year, including multiple judicial authorizations, search warrants and detailed analysis of evidence. He said the force recognized and shared the community’s concerns about the incidents, and had worked as an integrated team to continue gathering evidence that led to the charges. Pound said the charges should send another clear message to those involved in extortion-related violence that law enforcement is working collaboratively to ensure public safety.

The task force is led by the RCMP and includes members of the Abbotsford and Delta police departments, Surrey Police Service, Metro Vancouver Transit Police and the Canada Border Services Agency. The agency says the task force has secured 28 charges against 14 people since it was established in September 2025.
