White Rock woman hopes for canine birthday visits

Dog owners in White Rock and South Surrey are being invited to bring their pets by for a birthday greeting for Ruth, who turns 91 on Aug. 18.

Her son Chris made the request in a local social-media group, saying his mother uses a wheelchair and misses the dog she lost several years ago.

Ruth will be outside Bean Around the World, near Johnston Road and Thrift Avenue, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The coffee shop is at 1400 Johnston Rd. in White Rock.

Chris said Ruth enjoys learning each dog’s name, age and breed, and would be especially happy to meet dogs that are comfortable climbing into her lap.
