Township of Langley to hold household hazardous waste collection event
Township residents can dispose of household hazardous waste at a drive-through collection event Sept. 19 and 20 at George Preston Recreation Centre.

The Township of Langley will hold its annual Household Hazardous Waste Plus Collection Event on Saturday, Sept. 19, and Sunday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the east parking lot of George Preston Recreation Centre, 20699 42 Avenue.
The drive-through event is open only to Township of Langley residents and will accept items with limited disposal options, including adhesives, bear spray and fire extinguishers. Residents must provide proof of Township residency, such as a driver’s licence, tax notice or utility bill.
Vehicles must enter using southbound traffic on 208 Street. Staff will unload waste from vehicles, but will accept only items accessible through truck beds, trunks or rear hatches. Items passed through doors or windows will not be accepted, and walk-ins are not permitted. Liquid items must be in secured containers that can be handled without a risk of spilling.
Environmental Sustainability Coordinator Christopher Combe said the event is intended to ensure hazardous household waste is managed responsibly and does not enter drains or the natural environment. Nearly 1,200 vehicles attended last year, and residents should expect lineups.
Combe noted that paint, pesticides, solvents, fuel, motor oil, oil filters and antifreeze can be dropped off free year-round at Metro Vancouver’s Langley and Central Surrey Recycling and Waste Centres. Residents can review disposal options at tol.ca/recyclingresources or call the Recycling Hotline at 604-RECYCLE (732-9253). More information, including accepted items and event guidelines, is available at tol.ca/hhw. Non-perishable food donations for the Aldergrove Food Bank are also encouraged.
