Richmond High’s Class of 1996 raises $4,000 for its former school
Nearly 150 alumni attended a 30th reunion and raised funds that may support scholarships and other needs at Richmond Secondary School.

Richmond High School’s Class of 1996 raised $4,000 at its 30th reunion last weekend to donate to its former school, now known as Richmond Secondary School. Nearly 150 people attended the gathering at Catch Kitchen and Bar in Steveston.
Reunion committee member Jessy Bal said the money came from a silent auction, prizes donated by local businesses and former students, and cash donations. About 880 students graduated from Richmond High alongside Bal in 1996.
The class has not yet decided how the money will be distributed. Bal said it will likely be given to Richmond Secondary administrators, who could use it for scholarships for multiple students or spread the funding over several years.
