South Surrey bookstore hosts a Romantasy night for 14 readers
Grandview Corners Indigo welcomed local readers on Sept. 25 for crafts, book decorating and themed trivia celebrating the romance-and-fantasy genre.

Grandview Corners Indigo in South Surrey hosted 14 local book lovers on Sept. 25 for an evening celebrating Romantasy, the blend of romance and fantasy. The bookstore had announced the event on social media as a chance for local readers to get creative with books and connect with others who enjoy the genre. Activities included decorating books, making bookmarks and themed trivia.
Sonia Dhungana, the store’s customer experience leader, said she hosted the evening with colleagues Tara Bevan and Tara Cayla. Cayla guided guests through book decorating and bookmark-making, while Bevan led the trivia. The three colleagues wore Romantasy-themed masks.
Guests were taken to the event area when they arrived and could begin the activities right away. Some started decorating books, while others made bookmarks as they waited for the group to assemble. The Indigo team then ran the trivia game, which Dhungana said guests enjoyed and took part in enthusiastically.
The team had prepared three prizes for trivia winners and another for the best Romantasy-themed outfit. Dressing up was optional, and no guests arrived in costume, so the team instead gave that prize to a fourth trivia winner. Dhungana said one guest chose to decorate two books because decorating just one was not enough.
“The event went really well,” Dhungana said. She described the guests as appreciative and lovely throughout the evening and said the team was pleased to host them. The store would like to hold more events, she said, and several guests asked when the next one would be.
