A week-old harbour seal pup found alone in distress at Seymour Bay on Bowen Island has been taken to the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society for treatment.

A newborn female harbour seal pup found alone and distressed on the shoreline at Seymour Bay near Cowan Point on Bowen Island has been rescued by the Vancouver Police Department Marine Unit and the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society.
Police transported three veterinary technicians to the site by marine vessel. The team reached the shore shortly before 7 p.m. and safely secured the pup, which is estimated to be about a week old.
The animal, named “Canadian Bacon,” was taken to the rescue society’s facility for medical care. Staff are hopeful it can be returned to the wild in a few months.
