Delta urges residents to help prevent illegal dumping
The City of Delta handled 655 illegal dumping sites in 2025 and is asking residents to report incidents while using its legal disposal options.

The City of Delta says illegal dumping results in hundreds of cleanups each year, costing thousands of dollars in remediation. In 2025 alone, the city attended 655 dumping sites, drawing crews and resources away from other services. Dumping also pollutes ravines and green spaces, and materials such as drywall may require specialized handling and disposal.
City crews and bylaw staff monitor known problem areas and investigate every report. Illegal dumping can carry a fine of up to $500. Residents who witness dumping are encouraged to report it, and dashcam footage can be particularly useful when it identifies an offender’s licence plate.
The city also lists legal disposal options, many of them free. Residents may book one free curbside pickup of up to four large items annually, including furniture, appliances and mattresses; use a garbage sticker for material beyond the weekly limit; or take garbage, green waste and many recyclables to the Vancouver Landfill. Delta provides one annual voucher for the free disposal of two mattresses at the Vancouver Landfill. More information and reporting options are available at delta.ca/illegaldumping.
