The Langley School District has introduced rules governing the use and storage of e-scooters and e-bikes on school property.

Beginning in September, e-scooters and e-bikes will be prohibited at all district school sites, including elementary, middle and secondary schools. The district says the change is a health and safety measure following an increase in e-scooter and e-bike incidents across the Lower Mainland, including incidents involving serious injuries.

E-pedal bikes will remain permitted at secondary schools under the new policy. Students aged 14 and 15 may use light e-bikes, while standard e-bikes are allowed for students aged 16 and older. Adults may use e-pedal bikes at all schools.

School officials say students will be informed of the new rules at the start of the school year, and the district is encouraging parents and guardians to discuss the changes with their children.

The district says it will work with the Ministry of Education and Child Care, the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, ICBC and the Langley RCMP to promote safe riding practices and educate students about safety regulations.
