IIO seeks witnesses to North Vancouver arrest

British Columbia’s Independent Investigations Office is seeking witnesses to an arrest at Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver on Aug. 10.

North Vancouver RCMP say officers attended at about 8 p.m. to assist BC Emergency Health Services with a medical call. The man involved climbed onto the roof of a police vehicle after officers arrived, investigators say, and was then taken into custody and transported to hospital for assessment and treatment.

The IIO says the incident was not initially reported because police believed the man’s injuries were minor. It later received information suggesting the injuries may have been more serious and opened an investigation.

The agency is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or recorded video to contact it. Investigators are particularly seeking to speak with occupants of a grey Tesla Model Y that was near the scene.
