Nanaimo RCMP investigate fatal collision involving pedestrian and fuel tanker
A 42-year-old woman died after a gasoline tanker truck backing into a downtown Nanaimo parking lot struck her near a curb, police say.

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a fatal collision involving a commercial fuel tanker and a pedestrian Wednesday morning in downtown Nanaimo.
Police were called at about 6:46 a.m. to the Co-op Gas Bar at 60 Victoria Cres. Investigators say a gasoline semi-truck tanker was backing into the parking lot when it struck a pedestrian who was seated or lying near the curb between the sidewalk and parking area.
The pedestrian, a 42-year-old woman, died at the scene from her injuries. Police have identified her and are notifying and supporting her family.
The circumstances remain under investigation, and officers are gathering evidence to determine what happened, BC RCMP Sgt. Kris Clark said. The BC Coroners Service has also opened an investigation into the death.
