Fleetwood Park Secondary graduate earns $120,000 Schulich Leader scholarship
Surrey student Sarah Ye has received a $120,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship to pursue engineering, recognizing her STEM work and interest in assistive technology.

Fleetwood Park Secondary graduate Sarah Ye has been named a 2026 Schulich Leader and will receive a $120,000 scholarship to study engineering at university.
Ye was one of 100 recipients selected nationally from more than 350,000 applicants and 1,300 nominees. Schulich Leader Scholarships are valued at $120,000 for engineering students and $100,000 for students in science and mathematics.
Ye plans to pursue mechanical or biomedical engineering, with a focus on assistive technology for people with disabilities. Her application included a project using computer vision to recognize hand gestures through a laptop camera and control a remote-controlled car.
She also highlighted a sustainable-energy project completed through Shad Canada, in which her group proposed turbines in sewers to capture energy from rainwater and finished first in its cohort. Her other activities included organizing a major student-run debate competition in the Lower Mainland and developing an interest in coding through a Grade 11 course.
Ye received an offer to join Simon Fraser University’s Engineering Science program in late March. She said the scholarship will also connect her to the Schulich Leaders network and industry opportunities.
