Vancouver’s grey skies are not expected to last much longer. Environment Canada meteorologist Chloe Katsademas says sunshine should return to the city in about 24 hours, after a weak low-pressure system moves east.

The system is bringing cloud to the region and could produce light rain or drizzle through Monday and into Tuesday. Katsademas said the chance is not especially high: North Vancouver, the region’s rainiest city, has a peak 60 per cent chance of showers, while downtown Vancouver has about a 30 per cent chance.

She described it as a weak system, with only the possibility of showers passing through.

By Tuesday afternoon, the system is expected to shift east and a weak ridge of high pressure is forecast to settle over the region. Katsademas said that should bring clear weather and comfortable midweek temperatures of about 19 C.

Those conditions are expected to continue through the rest of the week, with temperatures potentially rising. Some inland parts of Metro Vancouver could reach 24 C by Friday, possibly giving some areas a final summery weekend.

Katsademas said the outlook for Saturday and Sunday remains uncertain. The high-pressure ridge could break down and allow clouds to shade the city, although no weather systems are headed toward Vancouver this weekend.
