Man charged after alleged random assault in East Vancouver

A 36-year-old man has been charged after an alleged random assault on a woman in East Vancouver on Thursday, Vancouver police say.

Police said the woman was walking near Hastings Street and Clark Drive when a man confronted her and allegedly punched her in the face. She suffered a cut beneath one eye.

A witness gave officers a description of the suspect, who was found and arrested a few blocks away, police said. He is charged with assault causing bodily harm and remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
