No new traffic pattern changes are expected in Langley for the week of Oct. 12 to 18, at least not in connection with the Surrey Langley SkyTrain Project. The project’s weekly update lists several upcoming changes in Surrey along Fraser Highway, including temporary restrictions on access to Fraser Highway from 68 Avenue on several days in October and November. Langley has seen relatively few changes in recent weeks.

Ongoing restrictions include the complete closure of the lane running east from the Langley Bypass to Production Way. The lane has been closed for some time while crews complete some of the final pillars for the SkyTrain guideway. Industrial Avenue has also been one-way for some time: traffic can travel only eastbound, from 200 Street to 203 Street.

The project passed several major milestones over the summer and in early fall, including completion of more than 65 per cent of the guideway. A major milestone for Langley was the arrival of the Langley Launcher, a large gantry used to lift precast guideway segments off the ground and into position for joining. It is one of four launching gantries and the only one moving west to east. It began work at the site of the future 184 Street Station.

The Langley Launcher crossed the Surrey-Langley border in September and is now heading toward Willowbrook SkyTrain Station and Langley City SkyTrain Station, located at 203 Street and Industrial Avenue. The project was recently renamed the Dave Barrett Extension and is not expected to open until late 2029, but the guideway will be complete well before then. Work on the eight new stations, track, power systems, and road and pedestrian upgrades around the stations will continue for some time.
