CAA Travel Insurance is encouraging Vancouver travellers to consider coverage before departure, including policies that cover prepaid costs, emergency medical expenses and pre-existing medical conditions. The company says travellers should also review whether a policy has lifetime limits or age restrictions.

CAA says its travel insurance covers unexpected medical emergencies while travelling, with an option to add coverage for pre-existing conditions. Under its Pre-Existing Medical Condition Rider, the company says a traveller recently prescribed medication may be covered if they have taken the new medication for at least seven days before departure. Pre-existing conditions must be stable within seven days before departure, as defined by the policy, and exclusions, limitations and restrictions apply.

The insurer also offers trip cancellation and interruption coverage. CAA says it can help reimburse travel costs when a covered emergency forces cancellation before departure, and can provide coverage if a trip is delayed or interrupted after departure. Coverage is available to non-members, while eligible CAA members in good standing can save up to 10 per cent on total premiums before applicable taxes. A minimum premium applies, and Visitors to Canada Insurance is excluded.

CAA Travel Insurance is an Orion Travel Insurance product underwritten by Echelon Insurance except in British Columbia. A medical questionnaire may be required for people aged 60 and older, and quotes are valid for 30 days. In British Columbia, BCAA Travel Insurance is sold through B.C.A.A. Holdings Ltd., operating as BCAA Insurance Agency, and is underwritten by BCAA Insurance Corporation. Claims are administered by Echelon Insurance and its subcontractors, Xodus Travel Services Inc. Travellers can request a quote from a CAA Travel Insurance Agent at 1-833-673-3030.
