Langley RCMP officers monitored school zones Tuesday as students returned to classrooms. Supt. Harm Dosange, officer-in-charge of the Langley detachment, began the day at Glenwood Elementary, at 20785 24 Ave.

Dosange said officers were reminding people to slow down now that school is back in session. Extra police resources will be deployed in and around schools for education and enforcement, he told the Langley Advance Times.

Police begin with education, Dosange said, but may issue violation tickets if that approach does not work.

E-scooters and e-dirt bikes are no longer allowed at Langley schools this year.

Brothers Zach, in Grade 4, and Leo, in Grade 2, walked to Glenwood with their mother, Frankie H. Both said they were happy to return to school. Zach said he liked math and playing with friends.

The Parent Advisory Council provided coffee for early-rising parents on the first day. PAC member Megan Carnduff said she was pleased to see police at the school.

Carnduff said the police presence made the area feel like a proper school zone. She said Glenwood, in a more rural part of South Langley, is often overlooked despite truck and trailer traffic and excessive speeding, and said speed bumps or rumble strips at 24th and 208th would be welcome.
