Man in his 70s dies after Nanaimo SUV collision

A man in his 70s has died after an SUV left the roadway and struck him in Nanaimo on Thursday, police say.

Nanaimo RCMP said the man was beside his parked vehicle on Departure Bay Road near Argyle Street shortly before 5 p.m. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

The SUV driver, also a man in his 70s, remained at the scene and co-operated with investigators. Police said dry road conditions, alcohol, drugs and speed are not believed to have been factors, but the reason the SUV left the road remains under investigation.

Witnesses and anyone with dashcam video are asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 and quote file 2026-23590.
