Two popular Metro Vancouver Halloween attractions have opened for a month of spooky activities in Newton and North Surrey. Cougar Creek’s House of Horrors, on 72 Avenue, opened Friday, Oct. 2, with five haunted houses, nightly stage shows, food, a gift shop and a Halloween festival atmosphere aimed at teens and adults. The attraction describes itself as Canada’s oldest haunt and has operated at the garden centre site in Newton for 25 years. It is open on 21 nights this month, with a “Whisper Night” on Nov. 1 and “Horrors Jr.” hours on select weekends.

The new haunted house for 2026 is Astroparasitix, billed as “an alien den of parasites,” with its promotional copy saying bed bugs “seem like a cakewalk” beside the blood-sucking creatures. The other houses are New Year’s Evil, Echoes of Abbath, Abomination and Sinneraria. Photos and details, as well as tickets, are available at cougarcreekhouseofhorrors.com; tickets are non-refundable and cannot be returned or exchanged. The website promotes a “full-scale Halloween experience” with immersive sets and professional scare actors.

Bear Creek Park’s kid-friendly Pumpkin Train runs during daytime hours from Oct. 1 to 31. More frightening nighttime rides start Oct. 16, when “Chainsaw Charlie” appears. Bear Creek Park Train & Mini-Golf, at 13750 88 Ave., is operated by Jassy Kaur as a privately owned business that has been at Bear Creek Park for many years. Children under two ride free. For everyone else, $12 covers a daytime train trip through a decorated forest, a treat, a pumpkin and crafts.

Nighttime “Scream” train tickets cost $18 each. The rides run from 6 to 10 p.m. and are for riders aged 12 and older; the website says people of any age are welcome at their own discretion. Daytime train tickets are not sold online, and visitors can buy them on arrival. The Pumpkin Train will be closed to the public Sunday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a Canucks Autism Network event.
