New video series showcases Burnaby’s diverse food scene
The City of Burnaby has launched Taste of Burnaby, a monthly social-media video series featuring local restaurants, cafés, food businesses and the people behind them.

The City of Burnaby has launched Taste of Burnaby, a new monthly social-media video series highlighting places to eat or enjoy coffee across the city. Each episode will introduce a local business, its owners or staff, and its food and drinks.
In a letter to residents, Mayor Mike Hurley said Burnaby has more than 800 restaurants representing more than 150 global cuisines. He pointed to the food offerings in Burnaby Heights, Edmonds and Metrotown. The Bite of Burnaby festival in March included more than 75 restaurants and more than 16 curated dining events, compared with 15 participating restaurants in 2021.
The series will also feature coffee and tea businesses. Matcha Tea Lab at Crystal Mall was opened in February 2026 by Burnaby resident Cathy Lau and a childhood friend. The first video, featuring food creator Diana Chan, known online as Foodology, is now live and highlights Siam Le Bien Thai Cuisine on Hastings Street.
Hurley said food businesses create jobs, fill storefronts and encourage people to visit neighbourhoods throughout the city. Burnaby had an estimated 1.3 million visitors in 2023, who spent more than $990 million and supported more than 7,000 jobs. The city plans to work with local food influencers on future episodes.
