Meet the six candidates running in Surrey North
Six candidates are seeking the Surrey North seat in the upcoming B.C. election. The riding is currently represented by Conservative Mandeep Singh Dhaliwal, who won in 2024 by 1,159 votes. Candidates’ unedited responses are being posted online as they arrive.

With voting day approaching, six candidates are vying to represent Surrey North in the B.C. legislature: Tanya Gupta (OneBC), Jag Bhandari (unaffiliated), Parm Bhandol (CentreBC), incumbent Mandeep Singh Dhaliwal (Conservative), Yudhbir Gill (Green Party) and Sahib Thind (BC NDP). They are among 93 candidates across Surrey whose names will appear on ballots in the provincial election.
Dhaliwal currently represents the riding. He won for the Conservatives in October 2024, defeating incumbent NDP MLA Rachna Singh by 1,159 votes, 7,954 to 6,795. Surrey North had the election’s lowest advance-voting turnout: 21 per cent of registered voters cast ballots early, compared with 32.4 per cent in Surrey–White Rock.
Surrey Now-Leader asked candidates in each Surrey riding to share information about themselves, their priorities and why voters should support them. The Surrey North responses below are presented in the candidates’ own words, unedited. Responses will be added as they are received, with the newest at the top. Because of the number of candidates, they will not appear in print editions.
General voting day is Oct. 24. Advance voting is available daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 16 to 21. **Parm Bhandol**
CentreBc
Bhandol says he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics and has lived in Surrey North for 10 years. He says he would bring analytical thinking, a commitment to the community and a passion for public service.
His three priorities are lowering household costs, building homes and strengthening B.C.’s economy; improving access to family doctors, surgeries and addiction treatment; and promoting transparent decisions, responsible budgets and public accountability.
If elected, Bhandol says he would focus his first 100 days on affordability, access to health care and restoring trust in government. He would push for meaningful tax relief, faster housing approvals, and support for local businesses and workers. He would advocate for better access to family doctors, shorter surgical wait times, and stronger mental health and addiction services. He also says he would seek greater transparency through clear budgets, open decision-making and regular public updates. His goal, he says, would be practical results for the community and a government that earns public trust.
Bhandol says he would be a strong, accountable voice for the community, focused on practical solutions rather than empty promises. He would work for affordability, better health care, safer communities and responsible spending. He says people deserve a representative who listens, speaks honestly and works hard to deliver results.

**Tanya Gupta**
OneBC
Gupta describes herself as a Surrey notary, business owner and mother who raised her family in Surrey. She says she is running because everyone she meets deserves a representative who shows up and gives them a real voice.
Her three priorities are shorter wait times and more support for family doctors and nurses; lower taxes to provide relief for Surrey residents and small businesses; and ending extortion, protecting shopkeepers and ensuring safe neighbourhoods.
Gupta says that in her first 100 days, she would open a constituency office with an open door, no appointment required, so no one’s voice goes unheard. She would meet with Surrey North shopkeepers who have lived in fear of extortion and stand beside them. She would fight for grocery relief for families counting every dollar and for seniors waiting months to see a doctor. As a notary, she says she understands how laws affect real families. She would consider every bill from their perspective, rather than Victoria’s, and keep knocking on doors to listen. She says that the day she stops listening is the day she stops deserving the job.
Gupta says she sees the high bills, fear and long waits Surrey North families face. As a mother, a notary who knows the law and a neighbour, she says she would take their voices to Victoria. She does not promise she can achieve everything, but says she will show up, be honest and fight for them every day.
