Lorne Doerkson says relationship between B.C. government and cities needs repair
B.C. Conservative Party leader Lorne Doerkson says the provincial government and municipalities need a better working relationship on housing, after what he called a very strained relationship.

B.C. Conservative Party leader Lorne Doerkson says relations between the provincial government and cities need to improve on housing. Campaigning in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood on Oct. 7, Doerkson said the relationship between the current government and municipalities across the province is “very strained” and needs to get to a far better place.
“We need a far better relationship with our municipalities in this province,” he said. Doerkson said bills have imposed requirements on municipalities, prompting strong pushback from municipal groups. “Ultimately, it’s not Victoria’s place to tell Terrace where they should put housing and things like that,” he said.
