Man struck with hammer while riding e-scooter in Vancouver

Vancouver police are investigating an assault near Gladstone Street and Vaness Avenue in which an e-scooter rider was struck in the face with a hammer Monday night.

At about 10:30 p.m., police say an unidentified man approached the victim from behind on a silver bicycle and hit him in the face with the hammer.

A second person reported being threatened with a hammer by a suspect matching the same description, though no assault occurred in that incident. The suspect is described as a white man in his late 40s, with a grey buzz cut and facial stubble. He was last seen wearing a grey T-shirt, black pants and black shoes, while riding a silver bicycle.

Investigators ask anyone who witnessed either incident, has dash camera footage or has information that could identify the suspect to contact police.
