Marco Matias, 37, faces numerous criminal charges connected to separate shootings in Guildford and Cloverdale in December 2025 and August 2026. He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing and is scheduled to next appear in court on Sept. 16.
Surrey Police Service Sgt. Ali Gailus said Mounties responded to a shooting near 110 Avenue and 140 Street on Dec. 7, 2025. Two further shootings were reported at the same residence on Dec. 27 and Dec. 28. On Aug. 24, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service approved 12 charges against Matias: three counts each of reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing possession was unauthorized, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and possession of a firearm contrary to an order.
Surrey Police Service also responded to a shooting near 60 Avenue and 177 Street on Aug. 12, 2026. Gailus said two people were shot at, with one sustaining minor injuries. Officers found the injured person after arriving, while the male suspect had fled.
On Sept. 4, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service approved 10 charges against Matias in connection with that shooting. They include two counts of discharging a firearm, aggravated assault, two counts of carrying, using or threatening to use a weapon or imitation weapon, and firearms-related offences involving a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, licensing, an altered, defaced or removed serial number, and possession while prohibited.
