Police seek witnesses after a man’s body is found on Highway 1 in Burnaby
B.C. Highway Patrol is investigating a possible hit-and-run after a man was found dead in the highway’s eastbound lanes near Kensington Avenue early Tuesday.

A caller reported finding a man’s body in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 near Kensington Avenue in Burnaby just before 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to police. B.C. Highway Patrol said the man was clearly deceased and had injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Its investigators have taken over the file because the victim may have been killed by a driver who left the scene.
The eastbound highway was closed between Kensington Avenue and Galgardi Way while police collected evidence, causing heavy traffic for commuters. Sgt. Michael McLaughlin said investigators are considering all possibilities and have not ruled anything out. Police are seeking to speak with anyone who saw anything unusual on Highway 1 near Kensington between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Police are also asking anyone who drove near Kensington Avenue before the body was found to share dash-cam video, even if it does not show a collision. Anyone with video or information about anything unusual is asked to call B.C. Highway Patrol at 604-526-9744.
