Prime Minister Carney urges Edmonton crowd to vote to stay in Canada ahead of Alberta referendum
Mark Carney wrapped up a two-day Alberta trip with a Friday night rally in Edmonton, urging residents to vote to remain in Canada. Monday’s referendum will ask voters whether to stay or hold a second binding referendum to begin the separation process.

Prime Minister Mark Carney urged Albertans to vote to remain in Canada at a “Forever Canadian” rally in Edmonton on Friday night. It was his second speech in as many nights, and thousands of supporters attended. The rally wrapped up a two-day trip through Alberta ahead of Monday’s provincial referendum.
Voters will decide whether to remain in Canada or hold a second, binding referendum to begin the process of separation. Earlier Friday, Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith met with Albertans at a pro-unity rally in Red Deer and urged the province to “move forward together” with Canada. Earlier in the day, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre told a conference in Calgary that Albertans should not leave their fellow Canadians behind.
