New Richmond bistro serves Taiwanese comfort food late into the night
Xiaoyu Bistro, run by chef Alan Chen from Taichung, has opened in Richmond with a seafood-focused menu of Taiwanese night-market dishes, stir-fries and classic cold plates. It is open until 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

A new Richmond restaurant is serving Taiwanese comfort food late into the night. Xiaoyu Bistro is owned and operated by chef Alan Chen, who is from Taichung, Taiwan. It took over the former Uncle Lu's space in Continental Shopping Centre, at Cambie and Sexsmith roads.
The name Xiaoyu translates directly as “little fish” in Chinese, a reference to the restaurant's seafood-centred menu. It features traditional night-market and stir-fried dishes, including lobster bisque paofan, in which cooked rice is submerged in a flavourful broth; geoduck with truffle and scallion oil; and crab and sticky rice.
Other dishes include prawns with garlic crisps, chili clam and chicken soup, lobster risotto and baked oysters. The menu also has classic Taiwanese cold dishes such as century egg with silken tofu, smashed cucumber salad and dried radish omelet.
Xiaoyu Bistro is at #1101-3779 Sexsmith Rd. It is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
