New Surrey+ council candidates set out three priorities and why voters should support them

Editor’s note: We sent our council questionnaire to New Surrey+ slate candidates through mayoral candidate Igal Ammons II. He replied: “Our council speaks with one voice. What one tells you is the same the other will say in his or her own words.” The slate did not send biographies. The council candidates are Leanna Chatwin (no photo available), Ian de Hoog, Messia Ditshimba, Chris Hoffman (no photo available), Emily Kennedy, Matthew Smed, Lily Tsi and Grace Ziegler. Ammons II emailed the following response on their behalf.

**Top three priorities**

The slate’s priorities are to build a bright future for youth by creating meaningful job opportunities, accessible education pathways and safe environments where young people can thrive; support rehabilitated homeless individuals and uplift the entire city; and lower the cost of living, implement responsible tax policies, improve safety and foster economic development that benefits all six neighbourhoods, without partiality or favouritism.

**Why should people vote for you?**

Ammons II said residents should vote for him because he brings a proven record of transparent leadership, pragmatic solutions and real results. He said he is dedicated to listening, acting and delivering tangible improvements, with no empty promises or political spin. His vision is a vibrant Surrey where every resident—young or elderly, working hard or facing challenges—has a clear path to a better future.

**How can voters learn more?**

Ammons II said direct engagement is the best way to learn more, whether at town halls, community events or informal conversations at local cafés. He said he is always eager to listen, ask probing questions, learn more, answer deep questions and discuss solutions that matter most to locals. He said he is committed to serving with honesty, integrity and a genuine desire to make Surrey a shining example for other cities and nations to follow.
