North Delta students raise more than $51,000 for ALS cause in Surrey
A student-led Move to Cure ALS Walk at Hawthorne Rotary Park drew 307 participants and had raised $51,537 as of Aug. 11.

Students from North Delta’s Seaquam Secondary brought residents together in Surrey on Aug. 9 for the annual Move to Cure ALS Walk, raising money and awareness for people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
The event at Hawthorne Rotary Park drew 307 participants and 15 dogs. It was organized for a second consecutive year by Akshay Kolli, Abhay Thour, Alson Chang, Sivish Shahi, Hrideep Trehan and Mehtaab Makkar.
The day included a community walk, food, games, performances, prizes, a 50/50 draw and information booths. Diana Mayhew, the event ambassador, and her husband Doug spoke about her experience living with ALS.
The fundraiser had collected $51,537 as of Aug. 11, after raising about $50,000 last year. Organizers say proceeds can support ALS research and quality-of-life equipment, including wheelchairs and home lifts. Donations remain open at movetocurealsbc.donordrive.com/Surrey2026.
