Man convicted in knife attack on Vancouver officer

A 30-year-old man has been convicted in connection with a knife attack on a Vancouver police officer in the Downtown Eastside in March 2025.

Vancouver Police said two officers were on foot patrol near Main and Hastings streets on March 4 when the suspect approached from behind and slashed one officer on the back of the leg. He fled and was arrested a block away.

Solaris Onatta Running Dey was convicted Aug. 12 of aggravated assault of a police officer and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon. Const. Megan Lui said the conviction recognized the risks officers face and brought justice for the injured officer.
