Narima Dela Cruz is running for Surrey council with a plan to lower costs
The Imagine Surrey candidate lists lower family costs, faster commutes and a more responsive City Hall as priorities, and proposes negotiating bulk transit fares with TransLink.

Narima Dela Cruz is running for Surrey council with Imagine Surrey. She is a longtime Surrey parent and community volunteer, a former Guildford PAC officer and the founder of SPIDS. Her three priorities are lowering costs, improving commute times and making sure City Hall listens to every community. She cites cheaper transit fares and recreation for families, rapid transit and more sidewalks for safer neighbourhoods.
Dela Cruz focused on transit fares. She said a nurse who rides SkyTrain from Surrey Central to a shift in Vancouver now pays more than $210 a month. Victoria, a city of 95,000, buys transit passes in bulk and passes the savings on to residents, she said. Surrey has greater buying power, she argued, and City Hall should use it. She said she would negotiate a bulk fare deal with TransLink to lower costs for Surrey residents, starting with youth, seniors and low-income families.
Dela Cruz said she would use her council seat to lower residents’ bills and answer their calls.
