Port Coquitlam launches five-day back-to-school safety blitz
Port Coquitlam crews will carry out school-zone maintenance from Aug. 24 to 28 ahead of School District 43 students returning to class Sept. 8.

The City of Port Coquitlam will carry out a five-day Back to School Blitz from Aug. 24 to 28, ahead of School District 43 students returning to class Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Public Works crews will clear sightlines at intersections and school zones, clean traffic and pedestrian signs, prune boulevard and park vegetation, inspect playgrounds and review crosswalk markings near schools. The city said the work will be completed before classes resume.
Mayor Brad West said the campaign is intended to make school zones clearer and more visible for families returning to fall routines. The city is reminding motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to obey school-zone speed limits, watch for students walking and cycling, and yield to crossing guards and students.
The city will work with School District 43 and Coquitlam RCMP on safety messaging and plans to post campaign updates and before-and-after photos on its social-media channels.
