RunSurreyRun draws more than 1,100 registrations as Surrey event grows for third straight year

RunSurreyRun drew more than 1,100 registrations at Holland Park on Sept. 12, marking a third consecutive year of record participation, according to organizers. The sixth annual event included 5K, 10K, 1K Kids Run and virtual races.

The 5K had 460 participants, while 420 runners finished the 10K. The Kids Run drew 98 young runners, and another 23 people participated virtually. Founder and race director Gurjinder Bhurji said the growth was encouraging, but that the event’s larger goal is to help more people get active and connect through running throughout the year.

Vancouver Falcons runner Louis Maruk, a three-time RunSurreyRun champion, set a new 10K course record of 31:01 on the World Athletics-certified route. The 5K was the seventh race in the Lower Mainland Road Race Series. Results and photos are available at runsurreyrun.com.

Participants encountered 10 activations along the course, while more than 25 sponsor, charity, family, health and wellness activities were held at Holland Park during the morning. Eight charities and non-profit organizations took part, with teams and individuals raising $4,608.23 for their causes. More than 50 volunteers helped stage the event, and leftover food was donated to Surrey Food Bank and Guru Nanak's Free Kitchen.

A new 2026 initiative involving run clubs, crews and community ambassadors is intended to strengthen ties with local running groups and encourage activity beyond race day. Planning for the 2027 RunSurreyRun is underway, with organizers focusing on sustainable growth and improving the experience for participants and the wider Surrey community.
