RCMP seek witnesses after two large trees set ablaze in Nanaimo park

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating after two large trees were reportedly set on fire at Bowen Park on Sunday morning.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly, police said. Officers who attended found the trees had been significantly damaged and noticed a strong chemical odour in the area.

No suspects, witnesses or surveillance video have been identified. Police said the fire could have caused significant damage if it had not been contained.

Anyone who was in the park between 9 and 10 a.m. or has information is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
