Burnaby teen fined $938 after allegedly fleeing police on e-dirt bike
Burnaby RCMP say the 16-year-old allegedly sped, performed wheelies and entered oncoming traffic before officers stopped him about 25 minutes later.

A 16-year-old boy was issued $938 in fines after allegedly fleeing police on an e-dirt bike in Burnaby, RCMP say. Police said the youth will likely face a driver’s licence suspension.
A Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services officer spotted the rider performing wheelies and speeding on Government Road in North Burnaby on Aug. 28. When the officer tried to stop him, the rider allegedly entered oncoming traffic, ran a stop sign and left the area.
Police said the officer did not pursue because of public-safety concerns. About 25 minutes later, the rider returned and officers stopped him. Police determined he held a Class 7 driver’s licence, and his father was contacted and attended the scene.
“E-dirt bikes are not permitted on our roads, no matter your age,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in a statement. He said a licence suspension and fine are preferable to the potential consequences police have seen in collisions involving such vehicles. RCMP reminded the public that e-dirt bikes cannot be used on public roads and traffic-law violations can bring significant penalties.
