New Highway 17 off-ramp opens at Pattullo Bridge replacement in Surrey
A new Surrey off-ramp now links eastbound traffic on the stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge directly to westbound Highway 17, while a New Westminster on-ramp opened in late August.

Nine months after the stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge first soft-opened to vehicles as the Pattullo Bridge replacement, more of its final road connections are complete and open to traffic.
A new off-ramp opened in Surrey last week, connecting eastbound traffic from the new bridge directly to westbound Highway 17, also known as South Fraser Perimeter Road. The direct connection did not exist on the old bridge and is the project’s most significant net-new link to the road network.
At the New Westminster end, a replacement on-ramp from Columbia Street to the new bridge’s eastbound lanes opened in late August. Both ramp connections required demolition of parts of the old bridge, whose structure occupied the space needed for the new ramps.
For the same reason, the shared pedestrian and cycling path on the west side of the new bridge is not expected to open until later this fall. Much of the Pattullo Bridge, built in 1937, has already been demolished, particularly the sections over land in New Westminster and Surrey. The bridge permanently closed to vehicles in February 2026, and crews began dismantling its pedestrian paths and deck by late summer. Demolition is expected to finish in late 2027 with removal of the old bridge’s in-river piers and foundations.
