Authorities are asking witnesses to come forward after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a cement truck near Vancouver International Airport on Wednesday. The collision was reported at about 3:20 p.m. at Russ Baker Way and Miller Road, closing the busy Richmond intersection for hours while emergency crews responded.

Richmond RCMP said the pedestrian was a woman in her 50s whose name has not been released. She died at the scene. In a statement Thursday, Sgt. Pak Yim said the detachment was deeply saddened and offered condolences to the woman’s family, friends and loved ones.

The cement-truck driver stayed at the scene and is co-operating with investigators, authorities said. Yim asked anyone who was in the area between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to contact Richmond RCMP, particularly anyone with dash-cam video. He said the information may be vital to the investigation. The detachment can be reached at 604-278-1212.
