YVR responds to proposed private investment in major airports
The federal government plans to allow private investment in Canada’s four largest airports through long-term concession agreements, and YVR says it will continue discussions.

Vancouver International Airport president and CEO Tamara Vrooman said the Government of Canada has announced its intention to allow private investment in Canada’s four largest airports through long-term concession agreements. YVR has been engaging with the federal government for several months since the Prime Minister indicated an intention to explore airport investment opportunities.
YVR said it will continue engaging with the Government of Canada and with Musqueam, citing their unique relationship. Since adopting its current operating model in 1992, the airport says it has created significant value for British Columbia and Canada. It says 28,000 people work daily on Sea Island, while YVR supports an additional 130,000 jobs nationally and contributes $16 billion to Canada’s GDP. The airport said it looks forward to exploring how private investment could improve the passenger experience, support its people and community, and provide long-term economic value for the region and Canada.
