At least 150 dead, 24 Canadians reported missing after Nepal flash flood
Nepal officials say a flash flood near the Tibet border has killed more than 150 people. Nepal’s tourism board reported 24 Canadians among hundreds missing.

At least 150 people have died and hundreds are missing after a flash flood struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district near the Tibet border, according to Nepal officials. The Nepal Tourism Board reported that 24 Canadians are among the missing.
The flood hit the Nepal-China border area Wednesday morning. Timure and Syaphurebsi were among the hardest-hit areas, and reports showed floodwaters damaging buildings, bridges and vehicles. Officials said nearly 350 foreign nationals were missing, including people from India, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.
Experts at Kathmandu’s International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development said the flood was likely triggered by an avalanche from a glacier. The region saw similar flooding in August 2025, when a glacial lake in Tibet overflowed during high temperatures, killing nine people and damaging a bridge linking Nepal and China.
Prime Minister Mark Carney called the disaster devastating and urged Canadians in the region to register through the Registration of Canadians Abroad service. The Government of Canada updated travel advisories for Nepal and China on Wednesday, warning that the flooding had damaged roads and infrastructure and that mudslides had affected parts of the China-Nepal border crossing.
