Richmond motorcyclist’s bike impounded after Highway 99 stunt, police say
A 20-year-old Richmond rider was fined and had his motorcycle impounded after police allege he sped, performed a wheelie and weaved through traffic near Furry Creek.

A 20-year-old Richmond motorcyclist had his bike impounded for seven days after an alleged speeding and stunting incident on Highway 99 near Furry Creek, BC Highway Patrol says.
Police said laser enforcement recorded the blue Suzuki travelling 146 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on July 18. An officer was nearby attempting to identify the motorcycle and find a safe place to stop it when the rider performed a wheelie and weaved through traffic, according to the release.
The motorcycle did not have legally required mirrors, police said. The rider, who held a valid motorcycle learner licence, was cooperative once he became aware of police.
The rider received a $483 excessive-speeding fine and a $368 stunting ticket. The impound and tow are at the rider’s expense, and police said he will also face three years of high-risk driver premiums.
Sgt. Michael McLaughlin said speeding and dangerous driving remain serious concerns on the Sea to Sky route, where a major collision can close the highway.
