Vancouver stranger-assault accused denied bail
Dylan Brandon Gaita, 29, has been denied bail on allegations involving a series of assaults on strangers in Vancouver. A publication ban limits reporting on the bail hearing.

Dylan Brandon Gaita, 29, has been denied bail in connection with a series of alleged stranger assaults in Vancouver.
B.C. provincial court Judge Deanne Gaffar ordered Gaita detained Tuesday. A publication ban prevents reporting on evidence and submissions at the bail hearing, as well as the reasons for the decision.
Gaita has been in custody since his re-arrest in late June. He faces four counts of assault and two counts of assault causing bodily harm. Police first warned the public about him in March, after charges connected to four alleged assaults on women between January 2025 and January 2026.
Police allege that after he was released on bail and ordered to wear an ankle monitor, two further incidents occurred on Commercial Drive in June. Investigators said a man was shoulder-checked near Charles Street on June 28, and a woman was allegedly elbowed in the face near East 1st Avenue the following day.
Gaita is next due in court Sept. 8 to set a date for the arraignment process.
