Canada-U.S. trade tensions not top of mind at Republican convention
As the Canada-U.S. trade war escalates, many attendees at a Republican convention in Dallas say they are focused instead on Donald Trump, election integrity and affordability.

The escalating trade war between Canada and the United States was not a priority for many Republican supporters gathered in Dallas for a convention Tuesday.
The unusual event, billed as “Trump-a-Palooza,” is intended as both a fundraiser and a way to build momentum for Republicans before November’s midterm elections, while President Donald Trump faces very low approval ratings. Trump was scheduled to headline the event.
Brian Becker said he did not really know anything about the state of Canada-U.S. relations. Attendees spoke enthusiastically about seeing Trump and about concerns over election integrity and affordability.
Many said they were not worried about Canada-U.S. relations, even as polling indicates Trump’s tariffs and his move to rename Lake Ontario are widely unpopular. Ken Moore described the trade war as an “interfamily spat” and said he believed the two countries would work it out.
