South Surrey distillery launches $71,000 campaign for second washroom
Mainland Whisky is crowdfunding a second commercial washroom at its Campbell Heights facility, saying it would allow its tasting lounge to grow from 10 to 50 seats.

South Surrey’s Mainland Whisky has launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise $71,000 for a second commercial washroom at its Campbell Heights distillery.
Owner Steve Watts says the current tasting lounge is limited to 10 seats. He hopes the new washroom would allow the space to expand to 50 people and revive private events such as tastings, business functions, celebrations and cocktail classes.
Watts said the business had believed its occupancy was 30 before a liquor inspector determined the limit was 10. The quoted cost for converting a small sloped-roof closet into a washroom includes design, permits, plumbing and architectural, electrical and engineering plans.
The campaign, called The Quest for the $71,000 Throne, offers rewards including named bar seats, limited releases, club access, personalized wall tiles and VIP experiences. Mainland Whisky says all proceeds will go toward construction, trades and permits.
Watts said the distillery’s products are sold in nearly 300 private liquor stores in B.C. If the expansion proceeds, the team hopes to bring back Sunday Sessions featuring artists from White Rock, Surrey and elsewhere in the Lower Mainland.
