Pete Fry is projected to become Vancouver’s next mayor, defeating incumbent Ken Sim in the mayoral race. Speaking to supporters, Fry said it was a bit overwhelming to receive the news. He said he and his team would not let voters down after they placed their trust in them, adding that they love the city and are there to work and fight for it. Fry said he has a great team and some good ideas, and that they will get started right away.
Sim acknowledged that politics is hard work and can take a toll on families. “You know, public life does ask a lot of the people that are closest to us,” he said. Sim said voters obviously wanted to go in a different direction, and that it was important to acknowledge that.
“Tonight marks the end of my time as mayor. Actually, that’s not true. I think I have a couple more weeks left, so yeah, all right, let’s make some changes now,” Sim said. He thanked voters for electing him mayor and called the experience the highlight of his life.
Colleen Hardwick finished third, with Kareem Allam in fourth place.
