Vancouver Airbnb hosts earned more during FIFA World Cup, despite lower occupancy
Airbnb says a typical Vancouver host earned $4,500 during the FIFA period, while AirDNA attributes most of a 33 per cent revenue increase to higher nightly rates.

A typical Vancouver Airbnb host earned $4,500 during the FIFA World Cup event period, according to Airbnb, which also reported a 24 per cent year-over-year increase in new active listings. The comparable figure in Toronto was $3,400.
AirDNA said Vancouver short-term rentals generated nearly $24 million in additional revenue during the tournament, a 33 per cent increase from a year earlier. Nearly $22.9 million of that increase came from higher rates, while about $840,000 came from additional booked nights.
The data firm said hosts gained pricing power rather than a large influx of extra guests. Vancouver’s short-term-rental occupancy fell 15 per cent year over year as supply grew and demand remained muted.
Hotels saw a similar pattern. Destination Vancouver reported downtown hotel occupancy of 75 per cent as of June 27, compared with 91 per cent at the same point in June 2025, while average daily rates in the latter half of June reached about $500, roughly 30 per cent higher than a year earlier.
