Severe thunderstorm warning cancelled for Maple Ridge
Environment Canada cancelled a warning that was in effect for about an hour, while the city urged residents to keep monitoring conditions.

Environment Canada has cancelled the severe thunderstorm warning for Maple Ridge, the City says. The warning was in place for about an hour Friday morning.
The alert had covered parts of northeast Metro Vancouver, including Maple Ridge, as a thunderstorm moved north through the region. Damaging wind gusts, heavy rain, lightning and quarter-sized hail had been possible.
The City said residents should remain prepared because weather conditions can change quickly. Its earlier safety advice included going indoors, staying away from windows, avoiding trees, open areas and water, and preparing for possible outages.
Environment and Climate Change Canada has introduced a system that uses live radar to track severe storms in real time, allowing warnings to be cancelled once the risk leaves an area. Maple Ridge’s Alertable system is connected to it; current and cancelled alerts are available at MapleRidge.ca/Alert.
