B.C. residents will vote in two elections in October: one municipal election for local government and one provincial election. Election information from official sources and the community will be shared over the next couple of weeks. Although the campaigns overlap, the elections are separate processes, with different candidates, ballots, voting places and voting dates. Information about Port Moody’s municipal election, officially called the 2026 General Local and School Board Election, is available at portmoody.ca/vote. Information about the 2026 Provincial Election is available at elections.bc.ca.

Eligible voters in Port Moody’s 2026 General Local and School Board Election will elect one mayor and six councillors to City Council, and two school trustees to the School District 43 Board of Education. City councils and school boards make decisions on matters that directly affect residents and their families, including utilities, roadwork, parks and recreation, community development, and the local school district’s policies and budget. More information about municipal government is at portmoody.ca/municipalgov. Municipal election voting is available in person on October 7, 10 and 17, or by mail ballot. Applications for a mail ballot must be made by 12 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026. Details are at portmoody.ca/vote.

In the 2026 Provincial Election, eligible voters will elect 93 members of the Legislative Assembly, the province’s governing body. Each member represents an electoral district; Port Moody is in the Port Moody-Burquitlam electoral district. The provincial government is responsible for services including hospitals and health care, schools, highways and electricity. More information about the provincial government is at gov.bc.ca. Provincial election voting is available in person from October 16 to 21 and on October 24, or by mail ballot. Requests for a vote-by-mail package must be made by October 18, 2026. Details are at elections.bc.ca.
